• His own children, including son Nate, a two-time All-American Division I offensive lineman at North Dakota State University, and daughter Cori, a two-time national weightlifting champion and participant in the 2004 Olympic Weightlifting Trials.

Safe has achieved the highest level in coaching certification as a USA Weightlifting Regional Coach, as well as certification as an International Sports Scientist Association (ISSA) Specialist in Sports Conditioning, Performance and Nutrition.
